We are delighted to announce that former immigration judge Emmett D. Soper has joined the firm as a Counsel.
“On the bench, Emmett was known for his kindness, intellect, and sympathy for people going through the unforgiving U.S. immigration process” said partner Ava Benach. “We are thrilled that he has joined our firm and know that our clients will benefit from his extensive experience adjudicating immigration cases.”
Prior to being appointed as an immigration judge in February 2017, Soper spent nearly two decades at the U.S. Department of Justice, serving as an attorney advisor for the Office of Legal Policy; an attorney advisor for the Office of the Chief Immigration Judge in the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR); and as an associate general counsel for EOIR’s Office of the General Counsel. Previously, Soper served as a judicial law clerk for the Buffalo Immigration Court. He graduated from Carleton College and earned his J.D. from the University of Oregon Law School.
